Taking Back Our Communities from Big Tobacco
Ridding NYC communities of tobacco industry infiltration through sponsorship and corporate giving is one of the ways we will get there.

Alicia Keys Sets Example for Entertainment Industry by Withdrawing Tobacco Sponsorship from her 2008 Concert in Indonesia.
■ What is Sponsorship?
The donation of money, services, or in-kind giving in exchange for recognition of the donation.
■ Types of Sponsorship:
1. Corporate Giving Sponsorship - funds donated to an organization utilizing the giver's corporate name.
2. Commercial Sponsorship - promotes sponsoring company's brand name.
■ The Problem with Sponsorship:
1. Commercial sponsorship and corporate giving are friendlier ways to promote a deadly and addictive product.
2. Tobacco sponsorship buys silence.
3. The tobacco industry preys on vulnerable and under-funded causes, including groups with high smoking rates.
■ Our Objectives:
1. Raise awareness surrounding the impact of tobacco sponsorship and its relationship to tobacco use.
2. Education NYC about tobacco industry marketing tactics.
3. Expose the tobacco industry attempts to addict youth and secure public acceptance.
4. Promote policy adoption to change social norms regarding tobacco and to protect the health and well-being of New Yorkers.
